The story
Weather reshaped the 34th Show-Me 100 weekend. Thursday’s Cowboy Classic feature was pushed into a Friday doubleheader, where Jonathan Davenport led all 40 laps of the Tribute to Don and Billie Gibson and Josh Rice won the rescheduled 45-lap Cowboy Classic. Saturday rain then moved the finale to Sunday.
Pierce had to win a consolation race before starting 20th in the 27-car feature. Davenport led laps 1 through 17 and 24 through 60, while Rice controlled laps 18 through 23. Pierce capitalized on a Davenport miscue exiting turn two on lap 61, took command and led the final 40 circuits by a 1.296-second margin.
Brandon Sheppard finished second, followed by Davenport, Garrett Alberson and Hudson O’Neal. The $75,000 victory was Pierce’s third in the event and his second in succession, making him the first back-to-back winner since Jimmy Owens won three straight from 2011 through 2013.
