The story
The 2001 Show-Me 100 drew 104 cars to West Plains on May 26. Davey Johnson earned fast-qualifier honors at 16.038 seconds, while Smith secured his feature position by winning a heat race.
Smith controlled the feature from start to finish and earned $35,000. Bob Pierce finished second, Steve Francis third, Rick Aukland fourth and Johnson fifth.
The victory joined Smith’s 1998 win and made him the first two-time winner other than Billy Moyer. The 24-car finishing order carried $167,450 in posted payouts.
