The story
The 1999 Show-Me 100 attracted 128 cars, the largest field in the event’s first seven editions. Earl Pearson Jr. set fast time at 16.135 seconds and won a heat, but Moyer established control of the feature.
Moyer led the first 75 laps before Phillips took over on lap 76. Phillips stayed in front through lap 100 to earn $33,000, with Moyer second and Freddy Smith third. Pearson and Don O’Neal rounded out the top five.
Phillips became the fifth different Show-Me 100 winner. The 24-car feature carried $162,850 in posted payouts, continuing a year-by-year climb in the event’s headline prize and overall purse.
